Bo Cao, Ph.D.

Dr. Cao is an associate professor and the Canada Research Chair in Computational Psychiatry, at the Department of Psychiatry, and adjunct professor at the Department of Computing Science, the University of Alberta, Canada. He is co-director of the Computational Psychiatry Group. He is an expert in using machine learning and big data to predict the diagnosis and treatment outcomes of psychiatric disorders, and has published several papers in top psychiatry journals. He is also interested in aging, portable brain imaging and non-invasive neuromodulation. He plays an essential role in the team of computational and digital psychiatry at the university.
Dr. Cao has a unique background. He was trained in mathematics (BSc) and psychology (MSc) at the top college in China, Peking University. He got his PhD in computational neuroscience in Boston University, and then was trained as a postdoctoral fellow in psychiatry in a multidisciplinary team at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Center of Excellence on Mood Disorders at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
